Using chisels like paint brushes,  contemporary artist Stephen Jones (b. 1980) creates his wood paintings in his workshop on the edge of the Snowdonia National Park.

After originally training and working as a bespoke furniture maker, Stephen started to gradually incorporate sculptural elements into his work, and has been fully dedicating his life to creating art since 2018.

Stephen captures movement and emotion through carving intricate and flowing organic textures into wooden panels, frequently finishing them off with fire or ink. The innovative use of wood as a canvas creates unique and highly personal works that often take many weeks to complete.
